Wellfield Resident Engineer, Jordan

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the thriving Middle East engineering sector. We have clients from the public and private sectors and work on projects throughout the Middle East region. 

Halcrow’s Water & Power Business Group employs almost 300 people across four offices in the Middle East working on projects ranging from highway drainage schemes to multi-million dollar infrastructure projects, submersible pumping stations to complete waste water treatment plants and much more between. 

We have recently been commissioned as Owner’s Engineer on the Disi, Mudawarra to Amman Water Conveyance Pipeline project. You will be based on the project site in Mudawarra, Jordan and be responsible for overseeing construction of 55 production wells and 9 piezometer wells, 400-500m deep. Construction work is expected to commence in December 2009 and continue for a period of 3 years. 

The principal function of this position is to oversee the design and safe construction of the production wells and piezometer wells to ensure compliance with quality, time and cost constraints. 

Key responsibilities will be: 
• Acting as a key focal point of contact for the Chief resident Engineer, Project Manager and EPC Contractor.
• Managing the drilling and civil contractor(s) to ensure performance against cost, quality and programme.
• Managing and directing the site supervision team of assistant engineers, inspectors etc.
• Preparing monthly progress reports to the client.
• Managing site safety against an approved site safety plan.
• Ensuring contractors compliance against contract specifications.
• Undertaking day to day site management.
• Verifying/approving contractors’ payment applications.
• Dealing with and processing contractor’s claims for additional time and money. 

The successful candidate should possess a relevant degree and be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience: 
• Project management and delivery experience with wellfield projects.
• Background in Hydrogeology.
• Leadership.
• Ability to develop and mentor junior staff.
• Experience in deep drilling practice and water well production testing and development.
• Significant past experience as an Engineer’s Representative/Resident Engineer on major civils projects (prior experience on water well projects will be an advantage).
• Experience in administering Conditions of Contract will be beneficial, although experience using other recognised contract conditions will also be considered.
• Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to motivate and lead teams to meet deadlines.
• Ability to manage systems and deliver to time in a structured manner with a quality result.
• Experience of working on large projects with private and public sector clients.
• Excellent written and oral English language skills.
• Arabic speaker would be an advantage. 
• A degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Chartered status (or equivalent).
